I had the pleasure of learning from two renowned interior design firms in Singapore, Avalon Collective and EDG, about what luxury means in today’s modern world at Singapore’s FIND Design Fair. Luxury is no longer defined by extravagance alone, but by the emotional quality of a space, its ability to offer comfort, meaning, and a sense of belonging. The new luxury embraces refined aesthetics that feel lived in yet elevated, with interiors that tell a story rather than simply make a statement. It is found in the quiet confidence of natural textures, the patina of artisanal finishes, and the seamless integration of craftsmanship with contemporary form. In the reimagined Chatterbox, EDG brings a contemporary lens to a beloved Singaporean icon, layering organic materials, warm lighting, and elegant architectural gestures within a glass enclosed setting that feels both rooted and refreshed. Firangi Superstar, by contrast, is an immersive, cinematic dining journey. It is a bold, theatrical interpretation of a foreigner’s romanticized vision of India, expressed through richly themed interiors, vintage textures, and artful detail. Across every project, EDG elevates design into a form of storytelling, where every element is purposeful and every space leaves an impression.
One of the most interesting takeaways is how the perception of luxury has evolved into creating spaces that not only provide comfort and elegance but also inspire unforgettable moments.
