How is your AM & PM Home Routine?

When I was in secondary school, I recall a teacher sharing with the classroom about her morning rituals. She spoke about how she lived by her morning routine of saying affirmations to herself while brushing her teeth, standing in front of the mirror. At the time, as a teenager, I did not fully understand it. It seemed a little bizarre, and certainly confusing. But over time, perhaps I have reached closer to her then age, and have now come to realise that the way you intentionally begin your day truly does set you up for everything that follows.

Would you have guessed that the start and end of your day quietly shape your relationship with your home? In the morning, it’s about how you enter the day when you awake. Do you immediately reach for your phone, or allow your present state to guide you? By noticing the natural light enter your room, taking deep breaths in the comforts of your bed, or having a few minutes of stillness before you get up, you can set your pace peacefully within your environment. Small actions like making your bed or preparing a drink can feel grounding when done with awareness, as opposed to being carried into the world of notifications.

In the evening, the home is ideally a place to soften. Think about how you signal to yourself that the day is ending. Gentle lighting, a calming scent, or stepping away from screens helps create a transition into rest. Clearing surfaces or setting up for the next day allows you to close the day with intention rather than creating an additional task for you to do tomorrow.

Take time to reflect on how you want to begin and end each day. When your rituals align with that intention, your home and everything in it becomes more than just a space of things. It becomes something that quietly supports you in your day to day.
